Jon and Taylor spent the night in Milwaukee last night so that Taylor could get to the hospital for his surgery early today. Although it took longer for me to type this post than the surgery, it had to be done there just in case anything went wrong. In therory they are better equipt to handle such unforseen circumstances since they are a hospital full of pediatric specialists...
I asked Jon to make sure that they knew what he was there for becuase when the nurse called me before the appointment she told me to make sure that Jon brought Taylor's extension tubing so that they could give him medicine before the procedure. Many of you are so far out of that mode that you might not even know what this means. When Taylor had the g-tube, there was a connection tubing that had to be used in order to put anything in the tube. I always kept an extra in his diaper bag, but I got the sense that parents often forgot this tubing... So I had to explain to the nurse that Taylor doesn't have a g-tube anymore and this is the reason for his surgery. It was a little odd.
Taylor's new incision where his second button used to be looked to be about an inch long from what I could tell under the steri strip. When healed, it probably will be more like half that size and should look like a straight line rather than a "dimple" as the surgreon called it. It is hard for me to imagine not having to explain to poeple (and Taylor) why he has two "buttons". I suppose it will be better for his self image down the road though.
Taylor was awesome, as expected. He went into surgery at just about 8am and was out by quarter to 9am. His post op care was easy, but took a long time. They left the hospital at almost 11am. Taylor seems a little groggy today, but he has been in a good mood and has not complained of any discomfort. The site does seem to be bleeding some.
